Awakened Alchemy Review – Is Awaken Worth Buying?

This Awakened Alchemy review is intended to answer all of your questions about the company, and it’s entry level supplement called ‘Awaken’.

Basically, the folks at Awakened Alchemy want to help you achieve your full potential. They’re offering the tools needed to enhance physical and mental health at the same time.

You could say that they have a holistic approach.

The main focus of their supplements is on providing greater neuroplasticity.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Albert Einstein Portrait
“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” – Einstein.

What is neuroplasticity?

It’s the ability to learn new skills, establish new neural pathways in the brain, and adapt to different environments.

Essentially, they’re trying to give evolution a push forward.

So without further ado, let’s find out how they plan on doing all of this…

Awakened Alchemy – Changing Minds

Awakened Alchemy wants to make nootropics a household name by encouraging people to see them as nutrients for the brain.

Essentially, they’re promoting nootropics as the next generation of multi-vitamins; only more focused on brain health.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Brain with Optimized Function

They’re also proposing that if cognitive function is optimized people can rewire the pathways in their mind any way they see fit.

In other words, they want everyone to use their supplements to evolve into the very best versions of themselves.

And let’s face it, who doesn’t want to make their lives better by expanding their capacities?

Conscious Evolution – What’s the Plan?

So what kind of blueprint is Awakened Alchemy giving people to reinvent themselves?

The answer is quite simple really.

They’re looking at mental health as a whole, and giving everyone the tools they need to perform at a higher level.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Blueprint with Ruler on Top

For example, they offer a free guide book for better cognitive health on their website, as well as a blog with related articles.

Awakened Alchemy has also put a spotlight on the importance of sleep for better brain health.

Their ‘Mind: Restore’ supplement is meant to be taken before bed to promote a deeper, more refreshing sleep.

I really like this initiative.

I think most of us know intuitively that sleep is good for mental health, but a recent study conducted at Boston University may have just proven it conclusively.

The researchers were able to demonstrate that our cerebrospinal fluid pulses while we’re sleeping, and this action flushes out waste materials in the brain that can impair cognition.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Koala Sleeping in Tree

The take away from this research is that, as a general rule of thumb, everyone should try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

That being said, better lifestyle choices are only one piece of the puzzle.  In order to foster an environment of personal growth, we also need to nourish our brains.

This is where Awakened Alchemy can take you on the final leg of your journey; provided their supplements can get you there…

So how good are the ingredients in Awaken?  Can they do what they’re supposed to?

Awaken Ingredients – Quality Assessment

Let’s start with the basics.

Supplement companies sometimes hide behind a loophole called, ‘The Proprietary Blend Exception’, to keep their formulations a secret.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Top Secret Stamp on Envelope

I’m happy to report that Awakened Alchemy doesn’t do that.

The constituents in their formulations are openly disclosed.

They also follow the guidelines laid out by the FDA for ‘Current Good Manufacturing Practices’ (cGMP).

This means their ingredients are tested for safety, purity, and effectiveness by a neutral third party.

In addition, their supplements are free of:

  • Gluten
  • Lactose
  • Soy
  • GMO Products
  • Animal Products
  • Caffeine
  • Addictive Stimulants

Awaken Alchemy also uses organic rice hulls to make their capsules instead of magnesium stearate, which I think is a nice touch.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Pile of Capsules

All things considered, Awakened Alchemy appears to be a very conscientious organization.

They’ve gone to great lengths to ensure their products are of the highest quality.

But do their formulations make sense?

Are the dosages sufficient to be effective?

Awaken Ingredient Analysis – Benefits & Dosages

The dosages listed on the label are for 2 capsules, and Awakened Alchemy recommends using 2-4 capsules per day.

I recommend taking 1-2 capsules/day to start.

Then you can adjust your intake as you see fit.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Ingredient Label for Awaken Nootropic Supplement

Now let’s take a look at the ingredients!

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)

Vitamin B12 helps keep nerve tissue healthy, encourages the growth of new bran cells, and facilitates the synthesis of neurotransmitters.

B12 provides benefits to:

  • Cognition
  • Mental Flexibility
  • Energy Level
  • Mood

The ability to absorb B12 can decline with age, so people over the age of 50 may need to take more for it to be effective.

The recommended daily dosages are:

  • 1-25 mcg/day for people 18-50 years old
  • 25-100 mcg for people 50+

Awakened Alchemy Review - Elderly Woman

Awaken provides a whopping 500 mcg/day with 2 capsules, and 1,000 mcg/day with 4 capsules.

At first glance, these dosages might seem excessive.

However, vitamin B12 is so well tolerated that you would have to take an obscene amount to see any adverse side effects.

Normally I would say this dosage is too high, but because B12 is being used to encourage neurogenesis, I think it’s justified.

Long story short, this dosage is safe, and should provide the desired effects.

More on Vitamin B12…

Beta Phenylethylamine HCL (PEA)

Phenylethylamine gives dopamine, norepinephrine, and seratonin levels a boost by increasing their normal output each time neurons send a signal.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Optimized Brain above Hand

The benefits of PEA supplementation include:

  • Better Working Memory
  • Enhanced Creativity
  • Greater Focus
  • Elevated Mood
  • Stress Protection

The recommended dosage for PEA ranges from 100-1500 mg/day if you take it on its’ own.

Awaken has 400 mg of PEA in 2 capsules, and 800 mg in 4 capsules.

This dosage is within the correct range, and should prove to be effective.

More on PEA…

CDP Choline (Citicoline)

Choline is needed for brain cell regeneration, increases the density of receptors at the synapses, and is a precursor for the synthesis of Acetylcholine.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Neural Network

Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter crucial to numerous brain functions, and when acetylcholine levels are elevated, we see improvements in:

  • Cognition
  • Learning
  • Mental Flexibility
  • Mental Energy
  • Mood

The ideal dosage for choline, when taken as CDP choline, is 250-500 mg/day.

Awaken provides 250 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 500 mg/day with 4 capsules.

This dosage is perfect.  Gold star!

More on Choline…

KSM-66 Ashwagandha Extract

Ashwagandha is an herbal nootropic best known as a potent adaptogen.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Strand of DNA Breaking Apart

What this means is that it protects the body and brain from the negative effects of stress hormones like cortisol.

Ashwagandha also accelerates brain cell reproduction, and improves the efficiency of seratonin, GABA, and acetylcholine.

Ashwagandha is effective as an:

  • Adaptogen
  • Antioxidant
  • Cognitive Booster
  • Antidepressant
  • Sleep Aid

The recommended dosage for ashwagandha can range from 100-1,000 mg/day.

Lower dosages are adequate for stress management.  Higher doses are needed to see improvements in cognition.

People supplementing with ashwagandha usually see best results at around 500-600 mg/day.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Balanced See Saw with Uneven Weights

Most supplements prescribe 250 mg of ashwagandha twice per day, with one serving being taken in the morning, and the second in the afternoon.

Awaken provides 200 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 400 mg/day with 4 capsules.

This means that there’s enough ashwagandha in Awaken to manage stress factors, but not enough to enhance cognition.

Unfortunately, I think ashwagandha is under-dosed.

More on Ashwagandha…

L-Theanine

L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea, best known for promoting a relaxed state of focused concentration.

Studies have shown that Theanine increases Alpha brain wave activity, which is closely associated with flow states and creativity.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Green Tea on Table

In addition, it improves the effectiveness of dopamine, seratonin, and GABA.

The best known benefits of Theanine are:

  • Anxiety Relief
  • Enhanced Focus
  • Heightened Creativity
  • Improved Learning
  • Better Sleep

The ideal dosage for L-Theanine is 100-200 mg/day.

Awaken provides 150 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 300 mg/day with 4 capsules.

This is a generous dosage, so I have no complaints.

More on L-Theanine…

N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)

Tyrosine is an amino acid best known as a performance enhancer.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Brain with Neurotransmitters Optimized

Stress can break down dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine, causing memory issues, anxiety, and confusion.

Tyrosine counteracts this effect by increasing neurotransmitter levels in the brain.

To sum it all up, Tyrosine improves:

  • Working Memory
  • Stress Resistance
  • Attention Control
  • Creativity
  • Mood

The recommended dosage for NALT is 150-350 mg/day.

Awaken has 150 mg in 2 capsules, and 300 mg in 4 capsules.  Perfect!

More on Tyrosine…

Uridine 5′-Monophosphate (UMP)

Uridine is needed for the growth of new cells; including brain cells.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Single Cell Undergoing Mitosis

Supplementing with UMP results in more neurons, and more connections between them.

UMP is also used for the synthesis of dopamine and acetylcholine.

The benefits of UMP are:

  • Improved Memory
  • Better Learning
  • Increased Neuroplasticity
  • Elevated Mood

The recommended daily dosage of UMP is 300-500 mg/day.

Awaken provides 150 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 300 mg/day with 4 capsules.

This dosage is exactly half of what is recommended.

Sadly, I think uridine is under-dosed.

More on Uridine…

Phosphatidylserine (PS)

Awakened Alchemy Review - Oil Droplets on Microscope Slide

PS is a phospholipid, which you could think of as a type of oil, that accounts for about 15% of brain cell membranes.

PS is needed to maintain healthy cells, and facilitates the production of ‘Nerve Growth Factor’ (NGF) in the brain.

NGF accelerates the rate of brain cell reproduction, and indirectly increases energy levels.

It does this by accelerating the rate of reproduction in mitochondria, and speeding up their metabolism.

PS enhances:

  • Long Term Brain Health
  • Mental Energy
  • Physical Endurance
  • Learning Ability
  • Concentration

The ideal dosage for PS is 100 mg three times a day.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Solo Violinist Concentrating on her Playing

Awaken gives you 125 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 250 mg/day with 4 capsules.

At first glance, it might seem like this is not enough PS to see significant cognitive benefits.

However, PS is abundant in a lot of common foods, and our body can store it for later use.

The takeaway?  Supplementing with smaller amounts of PS consistently can provide impressive results.

In my opinion, the dosage provided should still be effective.

More on PS…

Pyrroloquinoline Quinone Disodium Salt (PQQ)

PQQ is a micronutrient that acts as a very potent antioxidant, and as a fertilizer for mitochondria, thereby increasing energy levels.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Particles Exchanging Energy

It also encourages the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which in turn facilitates the growth of new brain cells.

Supplementing with PQQ provides:

  • Increased Mental Energy
  • Improved Learning
  • Enhanced Mental Clarity
  • Greater Physical Endurance
  • Better Mood

The recommended dosage for PQQ is 10-20 mg/day.

Awaken supplies 10 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 20 mg/day with 4 capsules.

This dosage is perfect!

More on PQQ…

Piperine (Black Pepper Extract)(as Bioperine)

Bioperine is a patented piperine product made by the Sabinsa Corportation.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Black Peppercorns

Piperine is the active ingredient in black pepper best known for it’s ability to improve the absorption of other nootropics.

Piperine also acts as a nootropic in its’ own right by optimizing neurotransmitter levels, and reducing inflammation.

The benefits of piperine are:

  • Improved Memory
  • Potent Antioxidant
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Antidepressant
  • Enhances other Nootropics’ Bioavailability

The recommended dosage for piperine is 5-20 mg/day.

Awaken provides 5 mg/day with 2 capsules, and 10 mg/day with 4 capsules.

These amounts are within the guidelines, and should prove to be effective.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Chemists Analyzing Formula

Awaken – Formula Analysis

In conclusion, I’m a little concerned that ashwagandha, PS, and uridine are under-dosed.

Ashwagandha should prove to be effective as a stress reliever, but probably won’t provide a lot of benefit to cognitive function.

However, it’s entirely possible that ashwagandha was never added to the formula as a performance enhancer.

Ashwagandha is most likely included in the lineup to support the anxiolytic effects of L-Theanine.

It is, after all, best known as a stress relieving adaptogen.

PS and uridine are commonly found in foods, and can either be stored for a rainy day, or synthesized from other substances.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Reflection of Woman Holding Umbrella in Puddle

CDP choline also provides cytidine, which is a precursor to uridine.  This beneficial synergy should make up for the low uridine dosage.

Considering that the main focus of Awaken is to enhance neuroplasticity, I like how there’s a generous amount of L-Theanine, CDP-choline and NALT.

All 3 of these ingredients are great for optimizing neurotransmitter levels in order to enhance cognitive performance.

PQQ is also really good for providing clean energy, and increasing mental clarity.

Basically, Awaken has been designed to provide better memory, learning ability, energy level, and mental flexibility.

All in all, I think the ingredients have been well chosen, and Awaken is a pretty solid stack.

Pros – Commentary

1) Awakened Alchemy is offering an enhancement system that considers sleep patterns and positive lifestyle choices as a part of the whole.

This is a very innovative approach to nootropic supplementation, and I completely approve of what they’re doing.

2) The ingredients are very high quality, and they get tested for safety by a neutral third party.  I have no doubt that Awaken is a top-tier supplement.

3) Awaken is well formulated; the ingredients support one another, and focus on improving neuroplasticity.

This coordinates with the stated purpose of all Awakened Alchemy products; to allow you to undergo a process of conscious evolution.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Man Evolving his Conscioussness

Awaken should help you reach your full potential if you decide to make it a part of your cognitive enhancement plan.

4) In terms of service, I’ve found delivery times with Awakened Alchemy to be good, and they offer free worldwide shipping with a 30 day money back guarantee.

You can also get a 15% discount if you subscribe for regular deliveries.

Their subscription system is open-ended; you don’t have to commit to 6 months or anything.

If you want to cancel, you just have to go to your account online and make the change at least 24 hours before the next delivery.

Bundle purchases are also eligible for discounts of 10%, 15%, or 20%, depending on the items you choose to order.

Those are the nice things I have to say, but what about all the dirt?

Cons – Commentary

1) Compared to some other supplements on the market, Awaken is relatively expensive.

True, Awaken provides 45 servings per bottle instead of 30; which is the more common standard.

However, I prefer herbal nootropics over all others, and would like to see more of them in Awaken; especially at a price point of $89 a bottle.

2) Phenylethylamine (PEA) is NOT my favorite nootropic.

It has a half life of 5-10 minutes because it’s quickly broken down by the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO-B) in the brain.

That’s why the upper limit on the dosage is so high.

I also have to mention that anyone with an allergy to amines, PKU, or a prescription for MAO inhibitors shouldn’t take PEA.

Awakened Alchemy Review - Female Doctor Evaluating Chart

If in doubt, please talk to your doctor before using Awaken.

3) Awaken is promoted as being ‘ALL NATURAL’, but several of the ingredients have very long chemical names most people struggle to pronounce.

True, most of these constituents are naturally occurring in our body, but how many people do you thing actually know that?

I think this might confuse some consumers, diminish their trust, and prevent them from trying the products.

4) Piperine has been shown to increase absorption rates for curcumin and CoQ10 in clinical trials, but has had mixed results with other nootropics.

In other words, we don’t know how well it improves the bioavailability of other nootropics yet.

So those are the pros and cons of Awakened Alchemy as a company, and Awaken as a supplement.

Now it’s time to get down to brass tacks.

Would I recommend Awaken to a friend or family member?

Let’s hear the final word.

Final Verdict – Yay or Nay?

I say Yay.

Awakened Alchemy has a great nootropic system for personal enhancement, and Awaken is a good product.

People that want to have more learning ability, mental flexibility, creativity, and motivation will love Awaken.

If these are capacities you need in your personal or work life, you should give Awaken a try…

Awakened Alchemy Review - 3 Bottles of Awaken Nootropic SupplementAll things considered, I give Awaken 4.3 Stars out of 5.

This is a very high score for me because I’m very picky, but it’s a good product, and it deserves a strong rating.

Awakened Alchemy is very counter-cultural in the supplement industry.

They’ve chosen to put quality ahead of profit margins, and I respect that.

I think this Awakened Alchemy review has given you a good idea of what the company is all about, and what Awaken can do for you.

  1. Hi Michael,

Awaken sounds like a good nootropic supplement.

You were very honest in your evaluation of it’s pros and cons.  You brought up a lot of concerns that I probably wouldn’t have thought about on my own.

It actually sounds like a good option for me, because I want to improve my ability to learn new skills and do better at work.

Do you think I should give it a try?   Or do you have any other recommendations for me?

    • Hi Suz,

Thanks for letting me know you want to try Awaken.

Based on what you’ve said, it sounds like it’s a great option for you.

The only recommendation I would make is to start off slowly.  If you do try Awaken, take 1 or 2 capsules daily for the first week, and see how you feel.

You can increase your intake to 2-4 capsules a day once you feel you’re ready.

Any other questions, just leave another comment.  I’ll get right back to you.

  2. Hey Michael,

This is a very interesting article on Awakened Alchemy and the vision of the company.

I never thought of nootropics as a new class of multi-vitamin, or nutrients for the brain.  I always assumed they were just drugs for performance enhancement.

Your review on Awaken really opened my eyes!  There’s a lot of value here, and I’ve gained a whole new perspective on nootropics in general.

Thanks for putting this together, and keep up the good work!

Glad you saw a lot of value in my Awakened Alchemy review!  Thanks for leaving a comment!

Yes, nootropics can be prescription drugs, natural compounds, or herbal extracts.

I prefer herbal extracts personally, but a lot of factors can influence how effective they are; things like time of harvest, how they’re grown, the extraction process, etc.

Natural compounds are popular because they’re easy to make in a predictable, standardized way for consistent results.  People usually don’t build up a tolerance to them either, so they stay effective over time.

Synthetics, or prescription medications, are a two-edged sword in my opinion.  They can have significant side effects, but they can also be great performance enhancers.

You should only take nootropics you feel comfortable using; it’s a very personal choice.

The best advice I can give you is to do lots of research.  Know what you’re taking, and why.  And when in doubt, ask lots of questions!

If you do try Awaken, let me know how things go for you!

  3. Hello Michael,

One thing I like about Awakened Alchemy is the fact that they didn’t hide anything about the ingredients.

True, some of the names are a bit hard to pronounce, but I’m sure that if I do a bit of reading, I can figure out what they all are.

I found your review of Awaken very thorough, and I appreciate that, but I think this supplement is a bit too expensive for me.

Do you have any suggestions for other products that cost more like $40-50/month?

    Thanks Michael,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on my Awakened Alchemy review.

In answer to your question, I can recommend either Mind Lab Pro or Performance Lab Mind.

Mind Lab Pro costs $65/bottle if you make a smaller purchase, but if you buy 4 bottles at a time it only cost $48.75/bottle.  I take Mind Lab Pro myself, so I can definitely vouch for its’ effectiveness and value.

Performance Lab Mind normally costs $49/bottle, but you can get it for $36.75/bottle if you buy 4 at a time.

Keep in mind that Performance Lab Mind is basically a stripped down version of Mind Lab Pro designed for custom stacking.

Just to get a better handle on what each supplement can do for you, I recommend reading both of the reviews I’ve written on them.

Then you should be able to decide which one works best for you.

This article is so well written, and provides so much value!  I’m very impressed!

I’m very careful about taking supplements that affect the function of my brain, and yet I’m very curious to find out what they might be able to do for my performance.

Curiosity got the cat, I suppose!  LOL!

The information in this article has definitely put my mind at ease (pun intended), and I don’t feel nearly as skittish about trying out Awaken now that I know what to expect.

  5. Hello Michael,

This is the first time I’ve every come across an article on nootropics, but I found it very interesting.

The human brain has always fascinated me.

The very fact that it functions in a way that is still not completely known to us today infuses a dose of mystery into the whole thing.

The brain develops until a certain age until it reaches full maturity, and we all know that with age, our mental health deteriorates.

I’ve always felt that it should be strengthened in some way…

    Thanks for writing this article.

I definitely share your interest in the human brain, and how it works.

But we’re not the only ones who are fascinated with the inner workings of the mind.  Have you heard of The Human Brain Project?

Based on your comment, I think you would really enjoy reading my article on Lion’s Mane Mushroom.  There are ways of strengthening our brains, and preventing cognitive decline.

Slowly but surely, our understanding of the brain is expanding.

  6. The human brain is an extraordinary organ, and when you look at the connection with the spirit, absolutely fascinating.

Because the brain is physical it needs to be looked after, and normally sleep helps big time. When we get older, things don’t work as they used to, and maybe a little help is needed.

I’m a believer of “no-drugs”, but you can’t take it away from “big-pharma” with their developments in the nootropic arena.

You have done a good job of explaining this product, but it is not for me and I guess won’t be for many others until the price comes down, and it will.

    • Hi Mick,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Awaken Gold.

I’m in the same camp when it comes to natural nootropics vs synthetics. If at all possible, I prefer to use herbal extracts or other naturally derived compounds.

Awaken Gold is an exception for me, since noopept is the only artificial ingredient on the label, and it’s been proven to be safe over a period of several years.

Still, you’re right, Awaken Gold is expensive. I tried it, and I liked it, but I take Mind Lab Pro now. It’s less expensive, and has more natural nootropics in it, so it’s the right supplement for me.

  7. Hi Michael,

    This is an interesting topic.

I took a step back when I read that brain cells regenerate. Then I saw it a few more times, so I had to go and so some research, as I had grown up being told that was not the case.

Well, clearly I have not been paying attention to developments in this branch of science since the 1990s, though I am familiar with the concept of neuroplasticity.

I guess that’s fortunate, being an old dog myself, constantly trying to learn new tricks. I’m inclined to agree with your many comments that herbal supplements could be a good addition to a general program aimed at improving cognitive function.

And like you, I agree a good night’s sleep is an essential element of that program.

As a lifelong practitioner of meditation and yoga, that is definitely another core component.

Thanks for sharing this post, and best regards,
