Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) – 10 mg

PQQ sometimes acts like a B vitamin, and helps chemical reactions essential for energy metabolism work more efficiently.

This is what’s called an ‘enzymatic cofactor’.

PQQ also encourages mitochondria to grow in number, which further increases energy production, and enhances the health of our cells.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) – 100 mg

CoQ10 is a protein we can usually find ‘parked’ in the membranes, or outer walls, of our cells.

Performance Lab Energy – How does it Work?

When PQQ and CoQ10 are taken together, they work better than when taken on their own.

PQQ acts like a fertilizer for the mitochondria, encouraging them to increase in number, while CoQ10 steadily feeds them fats to burn.

ALCAR and ALA have a similar relationship.

While ALCAR is shuttling fats and other energy sources to the mitochondria, ALA is absorbing free radicals and recharging saturated ALCAR molecules.

Last but not least, we have piperine acting as an antioxidant to protect the mitochondria, as well as making the other nootropics in the stack more effective by improving their rates of absorption.

Not a bad formulation.  It should be effective.

I say ‘should’ because this is all theory to me.  I’ve never tried this supplement myself.

However, neurohackers and health nuts alike report that it works really well.

Performance Lab Energy Dosage – Is the Formula Effective?

Starting off, we need to think about how this supplement is taken on a daily basis…

Opti-Nutra recommends taking a total of 2-4 capsules daily; 1-2 in the morning, and another 1-2 in the afternoon.

The dosages listed on the ingredient label are for 2 capsules.

This means the dosages listed have a safe range of what’s on the label, up to double (2x) what’s on the label.

Next, I’m going to list the ingredients, their ideal dosages, and compare them to the dosages provided to make sure PLE is properly stacked.

ALCAR – 1-4 g/day => 750-1,500 mg/day

ALA – 300-1,800 mg/day => 150-300 mg/day

PQQ – 10-20 mg/day => 10-20 mg/day

CoQ10 – 30-400 mg/day => 100-200 mg/day

Piperine – 5-20 mg/day => 2.5-5 mg/day

Based on these metrics, the dosages for PQQ and CoQ10 are spot on, but the other ingredients seem a bit light.

This may be due to the fact that these compounds can augment each others’ effects, creating a synergy between them.

      I’ve never tried Performance Lab Energy myself. The reviews I’ve read suggest that you feel a bit better right away, but it takes a week or so for your body to really start running more efficiently.

    I found this article on nootropics for athletes very interesting.

    So would a professional athlete be able to use this supplement? It’s made with natural nutrients found in foods, so my impression is that taking it would be very different from blood doping or anabolic stearoids.

    (obviously I’m thinking about Olympic athletes here)

    I go to the gym pretty regularly myself, so for my purposes, this could really be an awesome performance enhancer.

      In answer to your question, I believe that Olympic athletes need to be free of all substances that enhance metabolism, so at best they could use Performance Lab Energy during training, but would have to stop taking it before going into a competition.

      You can find out more by reading about the Olympic Anti-Doping Rules if you have the time.

      Since the nootropics in PLE are naturally derived from food sources, as you said, I think they would quickly be used up by the body without leaving any traces. I read through the Anti-Doping Rules, and I don’t think these micronutrients are banned.

      That being said, the rules can vary for different organizations like the NHL or the NBA, and I’m honestly not familiar with their guidelines.

    There’s a lot to be said for strengthening the connection between body and mind to enhance performance.  Protection from stress factors, and giving athletes the ability to overcome mental barriers is also important.

    I have to say that the list of nutrients in Performance Lab Energy is really impressive.

    I’ve known about carnitine and coenzyme Q10 since I used to go to the gym regularly.  I also used to read about nutrition, and what bodybuilders eat all time.

    I’ve been a fan of healthy foods and supplements for a long time, so I’m interested in everything related to that.

    What I haven’t heard about until now, and what caught my attention, is pyrroloquinoline quinone(PQQ). I’m glad I’ve found another interesting substance 🙂

    Performance Lab Energy seems like a very good supplement of high quality.

    I work a lot at the computer, and I’ve recently started to feel quite tired, so I think this product could help me with that.
