Performance Lab Omega 3 Review

This Performance Lab Omega 3 review is going to help you understand why omega-3 oils are so critical to your brain health.

I’m also going to explain why Performance Lab Omega-3 promises to be the cleanest, safest, and most effective source of omega-3’s on the market.

Three years in the making, Performance Lab Omega-3 is derived from algae instead of krill or small fish.

Since the algae is grown in a controlled environment, there are no toxins, pollutants, or animal by-products in the formula.

The capsules and the oil are both completely pure.

This simple yet elegant production process also eliminates any possibility of depleting fish stocks or ruining marine life habitat.

In other words, PL Omega-3 has almost no footprint; it’s extremely eco-friendly.

So why did Performance Lab spend 3 years developing a superior source of Omega-3 oils?  What are the potential benefits to human health?

I’m glad you asked…

What are Omega-3 Oils? – Why are they Special?

I’m going to give you a crash course on what you need to know, so pay attention!

There are numerous fats and oils we consume every day to support our bodily functions.  The basic building blocks of these whole fats are fatty acids.

Man pouring healthy oil onto some food.

I’m sure you’ve heard of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids.  Omega-3’s are a type of fatty acid used to build cell membranes.

This makes them extremely important for whole-body health and vitality.

Omega-3’s are usually found in fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and mackerel.  They’re also considered ‘essential nutrients’ in the diet.  This is because our body lacks the machinery needed to manufacture Omega-3’s from other substances.

Furthermore, deficiencies have been linked to all kinds of ailments, including cognitive decline.

Picture of a man with post it note reminders on a corkboard.

There are more than 20 fatty acids we eat every day, but the 3 fatty acids that are most critical to human health are:

  1. DHA – Docosahexaenoic acid
  2. EPA – Eicosapentaenoic Acid
  3. ALA – Alpha Linolenic Acid

So how do these 3 relate to one another, and why do we need them so badly?

Types of Omega-3 – What’s the Difference?

What you really need to know is that not all fatty acids are created equal, and DHA is the most essential fatty acid, with EPA being a close second.

The ideal ratio of DHA to EPA for optimal human health is 2 to 1, which is exactly what Performance Lab Omega-3 provides:

Performance enhancements provided by Performance Lab Omega-3.

ALA is an Omega-3 found in plant sources like flax, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and canola oil.

A certain amount can be converted to DHA, but not in significant amounts.

Ironically, a lot of supplements on the market contain more EPA than DHA, and may have some ALA thrown into the mix for good measure.  If you don’t believe me, go to your local store, and start reading some labels.

So why would supplement manufacturers purposely make an inferior product?  I hate telling you this, but the answer is simply cost.  EPA and ALA are way cheaper to source.

And this is where Performance Lab really sets itself apart from it’s competitors…

A montage of quality control guidelines.

They don’t cut corners.  They have a very straightforward approach, and this results in the production of some really great supplements.

Now that we have an idea what Omega-3’s are, and which ones are the most important, what are their main advantages?

Omega-3 Benefits – Why take a Supplement?

Americans spend over a billion dollars a year on fish oil products.

Certain foods are being fortified with Omega-3’s as a public health initiative.

Why is there so much emphasis on Omega-3 fatty acids in the North American diet?

Let’s give that some thought, shall we?

A detective thinking hard.

Omega-3’s are best known for helping with the following:

  1. Brain & Eye Function
  2. Cardiovascular Conditioning
  3. Inflammation Control & Muscle Maintenance

Since the body uses Omega-3’s to build new cell membranes, they naturally strengthen and increase the fluidity of cell walls.

Omega-3’s are found in very high concentrations in the brain, as well as retinal cells.  Basically, they’re critical to the proper development of our entire central nervous system.

Furthermore, DHA in particular increases acetylcholine release in the brain, as well as encouraging the growth of new synapses.

This results in better memory and learning ability.

A man reading a book at his desk.

Low levels of omega-3’s in heart muscle are directly associated with an increased risk of heart disease.

Omega-3’s also help regulate extreme immune responses that can cause inflammation, and preserve muscle mass by maintaining cell integrity.

These benefits are all generic to existing fish oil supplements, so what sets PL Omega-3 apart?

In a nutshell, I’d have to say that it’s all about the quality of the product, and how it’s produced.

Performance Lab Omega 3: Superior Production Processes

Performance Lab is completely focused on using innovation to provide the highest quality supplements.

The Performance Lab Mission Statement.

Their mission statement is pretty clear, and it may sound like cheap hype, but my experiences have shown me otherwise.

The folks at Performance Lab talk the talk, and walk the walk.

Need proof?

Performance Lab Omega-3 is a superior product because it’s:

  • Prebiotic
  • Eco-Friendly
  • GMP Certified
  • Caffeine Free
  • Non-GMO
  • Additive Free
  • Soy Free
  • Gluten Free
  • Allergen Free
  • Banned Substance Tested
  • Non-Irradiated

And just in case you’re still not convinced, let’s look at what’s in the bottle…

The DHA to EPA ratio is 2:1, which is the most effective for optimizing human health.

There are no other ingredients, except for the capsules, which are basically made out of tapioca starch.  A lot of supplement companies make their capsules out of carrageenan or animal by-products like gelatin.

Carrageenan can be hard for some people to digest, and gelatin is usually made with the hides and hooves of animal remnants.

The fact that PL Omega-3 is extracted from cultured algae and uses higher quality soft-gels makes it a truly vegan-friendly product.

It’s also worth noting that producing traditional Omega-3 oil products can have a serious impact on fish stocks and marine life habitat.

Food chain pyramid illustration for Performance Lab Omega 3 review.
Food Chain Illustration – Larger fish contain the most contaminants.

The chances of having mercury, toxins, and micro plastics in your supplements also increases the higher up the food chain you go.

In order to reduce the risk of contamination, regular fish oil products are often highly processed, and this can reduce the bioavailability of the fatty acids they contain.

The algal oil in PL Omega-3 is up to 70% more absorbable than the synthetic ethyl esters commonly found in most fish oil supplements.

There are also no issues with fishy odors, upset stomach, or excessive belching.

So if Performance Lab Omega-3 is a superior product, how can we use it for best results?

Let’s find out…

Omega-3 Dosage – Need-to-Know Basics

The recommended intake for Omega-3 fatty acids is 1.6 to 2.0 grams/day for men, and 1.1 to 2.0 grams for women.

A pile of soft-gels on a table.

Women need slightly less than men because the hormone estrogen allows them to convert ALA to DHA and EPA in greater amounts.

There have been no serious side effects reported with the use of Omega-3 supplements.  The most common adverse effects are:

  • Fishy Odor
  • Bad Aftertaste
  • Heartburn
  • Excessive Belching
  • Loose Stools

There are also a few cautions for people that are:

  • Taking Anticoagulants
  • Using Immunosuppressants
  • Diabetic

Omega-3’s can reduce the viscosity of the blood, which can cause excessive bleeding.  Needless to say, taking a supplement with anticoagulants at the same time could prove problematic.

A street sign indicating problems to the left and right.

Omega-3’s also suppress the immune system, so doubling down on any immunosuppressants is not recommended.

There has been some evidence that Omega-3’s may increase blood glucose levels.  Diabetics should consult with their doctor before supplementing with Omega-3’s, just to be cautious.

Now that we know how to take PL Omega-3 for best results, how does it compare to other products on the market?  Is it expensive?

Actually, no.  It’s very cost effective…

Performance Lab Omega 3 – Does it Provides Good Value?

If you take a quick cruise on Amazon, you’ll see that Omega-3 supplements range in price from $20 to $65/bottle.

Market analytics on a tablet screen.

That puts the ‘Market Average’ at about $40/bottle.

Surprisingly, Performance Lab Omega-3 actually comes in a little under that mark!

If you purchase 1 or 2 bottles at a time, PL Omega costs $39/box, which works out to about $1.30/serving.

You also have to pony up for the shipping yourself.

If you buy 3 bottles, you get a 4th bottle thrown in for free, and the shipping is also covered for you.

This brings your price down to just $29.95/box, or $0.98/serving.

Considering the quality of this product, I would honestly expect to pay a lot more; to the tune of about $50/box.

A man holding a piggy bank in both hands.

That being said, it’s great to see that Performance Lab is willing to offer this kind of value.

So without further ado, let’s wrap things up, shall we?

Performance Lab Omega 3 Review – Worth your Money?

There are tons of fish oil supplements for you to choose from at your local grocery store.

They might even be incredibly cheap; only costing you about $20 a bottle.

But do they work?  And if they don’t, why bother using them?

The main purpose of this Performance Lab Omega-3 review is to let you know about a product that’s both affordable and effective.

A dart in the bullseye of a dartboard.

In my opinion, that’s REAL VALUE.

During the course of this review, we’ve also looked at what Omega-3 oils are, and why they’re so essential to better brain health.

The research tells us that DHA is the most important fatty acid to supplement with, and that ideally it should be taken with EPA in a 2 to 1 ratio.

Omega-3 is one of the very few supplements on the market that follows this guideline perfectly.

Furthermore, Performance Lab has gone out of their way to make sure that it’s eco-friendly, vegan, and has soft-gels that are easier to digest.

So would I recommend PL Omega-3 to a family member or a friend?

Yes, absolutely!

In fact, I’d feel like I was depriving them of a great opportunity if I didn’t tell them about it!

Simply put, I just can’t see a down side to using this supplement.

In my opinion, this product deserves a 5 Star Rating.

Three years in the making, Performance Lab Omega-3 is completely revolutionary.

I highly recommend it.

In my next post, I’ll be looking at the nootropic effects of CBD oil, and some of the crazy combinations neuro-hackers have been trying to get the most out of it.

See you there!

Personal Notes from Michael – Experiences with Performance Lab Omega 3

Bottle of Omega-3 to test for Performance Lab Omega-3 review.

I was so excited by the release of this new product that I ordered some right away.

That was on October 19th, 2020, and it’s November 19th, 2020 today, so it’s been one month since I’ve been taking Omega-3 along with Mind Lab Pro.

I’ve found that the capsules are very easy to digest, and I haven’t had any problems with ‘Fishy Burps’ or an upset stomach.

I’ve definitely had more energy, and my mental clarity has improved significantly.

Usually my joints in my knees and back give me a lot of grief early in the morning when I wake up, but they’ve been much better lately.

Acuity in my eyesight has also gotten better.  Overall, I’d have to say that I’m pretty impressed.

Delivery time on the product was good; it got to me in 2 business days.

There were some additional duties to pay because I live in Canada, and the nearest Opti-Nutra location is in the United States.

It was another $20 for the whole order, and I got 4 bottles, so it works out to about another $5/bottle.

If you do live North of the border, you might want to keep that in mind.

This is a very good supplement for brain health, your vision, and joints.

Well worth the money, if you need a good Omega-3 oil product.

  1. Oh cool, I hadn’t heard of an Omega-3 supplement that came from algae instead of fish oil.

I know a lot of people who swear by fish oil, but it can be very challenging to find one that doesn’t stink (and cause whoever has taken it to stink). I like that it also seems to be a more sustainable option.

How does this compare to the effects of Omega 3:6:9 supplements? I had heard they were better absorbed due to the ratio of ingredients.

    • Hi Aly,

Thanks for taking the time to read my review on PL Omega-3.

The answer to your question is that while Omega-3’s are difficult to get in our regular diet, Omega-6’s and Omega-9’s are abundant.

Furthermore, when you ingest Omega 3’s, 6’s, and 9’s together, the Omega-3’s get ‘crowded out’, and their absorption rate is actually reduced.

The end result can be increased inflammation, because the beneficial effects of the Omega-3’s are effectively blocked.

You can learn more by reading this article.

What you need is a clean, pure source of Omega-3’s, because they offer the most benefit to your health, and they’re the hardest to get in your diet.

      Hope this helps.

Any other questions, just let me know!

  2. Hi Michael,

I’ve always wanted to improve my brain health and mental focus.

I love the fact that Performance Lab Omega-3 is made from cultivated algae. There are just so many dioxins in fish nowadays, and I read an article that said they don’t leave your body for 7-11 years!

A lot of people don’t know it, but we have way too much omega-6 in our diet, as a general rule.  What we really need is to supplement with omega-3’s.

    Thanks for your review.

I’m going to give it a try and keep you posted on how I feel.

    • Hi Nuttanee,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Omega-3’s.  Really appreciate your interest!

I just ordered 4 bottles of this product myself.  I used to take an Omega 3-6-9 supplement back in the day, and the results were so-so.

I’m going to add an “Editor’s Note” to the end of this article in about a month to share my experiences with everyone.

Please check in with me then, and if you’ve had a chance to try Omega-3 yourself, I’d really love to find out how it worked for you!

      Let’s keep in touch!

  3. Hello Michael,

I’ve taken fish oil for a number of years now based on research I did previously into its beneficial effects on brain health and joint health.

I exercise quite a lot, and find my knees are much happier when I take it.

It’s good to hear that Performance Lab Omega-3 is eco-friendly, because I do like to know that any products I use relating to animals are humane, and don’t negatively impact wildlife populations.

You’ve convinced me to give these fish oils a go!

    • Hi Emma,

Glad to hear you got a lot out of reading this review.

Based on the literature I’ve reviewed, Performance Lab Omega-3 is a major upgrade.  It let’s us receive the health benefits we need without having a negative impact on ocean ecosystems.

It’s really is a win-win, so I’m pretty excited about this new product.  In fact, I just ordered 4 bottles, and I’m waiting for it to get delivered.

Feel free to share your experiences once you give Omega-3 a try; I’m very interested in receiving your feedback!

  5. Hey Michael,

I would never have known that Omega-3’s came from algae. I always thought they came from fish.

I know many supplements can come through the pores, and do smell somewhat.

So is fish as the main source of Omega’s in the diet? Seems to me this would be the best way to top this up, but as you just pointed out, toxins in our waters could be a big problem.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

    • Hey Mick,

Thanks for taking the time to look over my review.

You can still eat fish to get some of the Omega-3’s you need, and I try to eat fish at least once a week personally. You can never really get enough Omega-3’s in your diet!

I used to take a fish oil supplement myself, and I found that I experienced excessive belching. Needless to say, after that 1st bottle was done, I stopped taking it.

Another good supplement to consider for structural support of nerve tissue and brain cell replacement is phosphatidylserine(PS). Check out my full review if you’re interested.

Thanks once again for stopping by, and I look forward to seeing you here again!

    • Hey Justin,

Thanks so much for having a look at my review.

You’re right. The supplement market is very competitive, and companies like Performance Lab are always raising the bar to get a larger slice of market share for themselves.

To the victor go the spoils, I suppose.

  7. Thanks very much for sharing your review of Performance Lab Omega-3.

I’ve read a lot about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. This post seems to sum up all that I know about them.

I like the fact that this supplement is made from cultivated algae, as it seems to be cleaner and more eco-friendly at the same time.

However, this is the first time I’ve heard about oil being extracted from algae. It’s good to know.

When I look at the price/quality ratio, I think this supplement is more than worth it.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Ivan,

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on PL Omega-3.

Truth be told, the Omega-3’s in krill and fish originally come from the algae they eat, so this supplement is actually GOING BACK to the original source of the oil.

It’s a very simple, yet elegant solution to the damage being inflicted on ocean species.

Please let me know if you give it a try, or if you have any questions.

  8. Generally, I always vote for having the necessary nutrients from eating natural food over taking supplements.

My husband and I are close to our 60’s, so we add supplements on top of our diet to try and keep our nutrition in balance.

Since my husband is a diabetic, too much Omega-3 can be dangerous for him. In my case, it would lower my blood pressure, and possibly affect my sleep patterns.

However, I do understand that there are people who either can’t or wouldn’t bother with sourcing out the correct food, so a good (and I mean good, like the one you found and I have never heard of) supplement is a viable option.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention – you never know, I might just need this information some day.

    • Hi Kerryanne,

Thanks for giving this review a read, and sharing your thoughts.

I really must applaud you and your husband for trying to eat a healthy diet in the first place. There are a number of reports I’ve read that recommend eating seafood 1-2 times a week as a bare minimum for better health.

My wife and I try to eat fish at least once a week, and we’re taking this Omega-3 supplement on top; just like you suggested.

However, neither myself nor my wife are diabetic or have low blood pressure. If you’re interested in an alternative to Omega-3 supplements for better brain function, you could try phosphatidylserine(PS).

It’s also a structural support ingredient for brain development, but doesn’t have any potential side effects that could negatively impact you or your husband.

      Thanks once again, stay safe.

      Michael
